![]() ![]() On the other hand, H&K was recently awarded a Department Of Defense contract for the Compact Semi Automatic Sniper System (CSASS) which had included an OSS suppressor (albeit a previous generation model). If you have any time around suppressed ARs, you’ve probably heard a SureFire SOCOM in person. Why the SureFire to OSS faceoff? For one, the latest generation of SureFire’s 5.56 rifle silencer has been in wide circulation for a number of years and tends to be popular among both law enforcement and military specialized teams. This week we take a look at the HELIX 556 and do a comparison to the SureFire SOCOM 556 RC2. So the SilencerCo Saker 762 to OSS HELIX HX-QD 762 comparison is going to have to wait. The reason we are breaking up the OSS HELIX review into two parts is that my battle rifle host, PTR91-K (G3K clone), ended up having FTF issues at the range. SILENCER SATURDAY #32: OSS Suppressors HELIX – Part 1 But with the OSS Suppressor HELIX HX-QD 556 securely mounted to the Dynamic Defense ROMEO upper, I proceeded to conduct science. I have to be honest, even after checking for concentricity, keyholing rounds and mount tightness, pulling the trigger on my first suppressed round was a little nerve racking. After last week’s discussion on ammunition selection, baffle strikes and how to avoid similar mistakes, I jumped back on the proverbial horse and went out for more decibel metering (thanks again to Allen Engineering). Great products, killer warranty and customer service, huge lineup of products and that QD system is solid.Welcome back to TFB’s Silencer Saturday, where guns are judged on the threads of their muzzle, not the color of their finish. I’m sure the OSS is a great can but dead air really is hard to beat. I have heard of people still needing to tinker with there guns while using OSS cans, even the new models. If those are the three you have it down too then just go with dead air. The sandman compared to the nomad just looks way cooler. However (and this is just me) I wanted a bomb proof can, full auto rated and one that looks cool. I’m sure it would hold up to long strains of semi auto fire just fine because dead air makes some tough as shit cans. This okay if you consider not many people will be doing full auto mag dumps through there can. Nomad series is a really awesome can from reviews online but some would say it’s not as rugged as the sandman series. So you have a much broader amount of compatibility with there mount system and honestly, it’s a really great system. A lot of companies are now making there devices cross compatible with dead airs QD system. Compare it to dead air where they are cheaper but not only that. OSS does give you all those cool benefits of low back pressure sure but a lot of owners say it’s not as quiet compared to the other two. I ended up buying the sandman s and here is why. 30 caliber can and it was literally between the three you mentioned. So I own a few cans but was having a hard time deciding on my first. Figured asking people who have experience in the NFA world would be the people to ask! Am I way off base for wanting the OSS? It seems perfect for my needs but I don't want to drop a bunch of money and time on something that is going to be trash in the long run. I'm open to other options too but I'd like to keep the whole package (with stamp) around $1k. I don't really care about weight, I mostly just shoot out in the desert or at ranges, and the suppression I most care about is at the shooters ear (another point for the OSS). I've heard great things about the sandman s, and that's why I'm looking at that and the nomad was recommended as the best all around first suppressor by my lgs. The reviews seem good on it but people in this sub seem to hate on it an awful lot. My I'm leaning the most towards the OSS helix right now as I think it will be the most cost effective option (don't need gas blocks, or bolt carriers or anything like that) and it reduces the blowback considerably. The real kicker is that I shoot lefty and the times I've shot suppressed were made extremely unenjoyable by the back pressure (which is what lead me to the OSS). I currently plan to suppress a standard AR 16", a 10.5" ar pistol in 5.56, a 10.5" ar pistol in 300BLk and my M14. However, after further research I don't really plan on suppressing any of my handguns (they're not really setup for it in any way) so I figured a general purpose rifle can should be able to handle everything. I've decided that with my trumpbux I'm going to jump into the NFA world! Originally I wanted a do-it-all can and was looking at options like liberty mystic x.
